Wounds, the forgotten challenge

People with wounds that won’t heal can be in pain for years, and are often ready to try anything – even maggots.

Persistent wounds like ulcers can remain raw and open for months or years, causing pain and stress as well as putting pressure on health services. In Cardiff, the Welsh Wound Innovation Centre is looking for better ways to help wounds heal.

Alongside new technologies, they’re reviving an ancient and unexpected treatment: live maggots.
